New Emergency Alert System and Emergency Management Resources

Thank you all those who were able to attend the July 26th Emergency Response Engagement Session.  If you missed it, you can watch the recording here, and download some of the resources at the end of this post.

I strongly encourage residents of Electoral Area A (including UBC, UNA, and the UEL) to sign up for free emergency alerts from Metro Vancouver through Alertable.

Alertable is a mass public alert system to help you and your family stay informed and safe during an emergency. Alertable notifications share critical information that let you know:

  • What the emergency is
  • Where the emergency is occurring
  • How to stay safe
  • When the event is over or new information is available

If you had previously signed up to Metro Vancouver’s emergency notification system, you will be transitioned automatically to the new Alertable notification system, but we encourage you to review the information in the link below to learn about Alertable.

In addition to subscribing to Alertable, UBC students, faculty, and staff are also encouraged to register for UBC Alert. The UBC Alert online registration is only for University of British Columbia students, faculty, and staff. Residents of the UBC Neighbourhood Housing areas will be automatically enrolled to receive emergency notification messages via the UBC Alert system by signing up for the UNA Access Card and/or UNA Membership (UNA Memberships are free for residents and can be picked up at the Old Barn or Wesbrook Community Centres).
